A&A Monthly Recap: June 2017

The month of June was quite productive for me; I had the month off of traveling and so I had the opportunity to get caught up on a lot of projects that I had sitting on the backburner and simply enjoy being home for a little while.

Destinations Visited

As I said, I had this month off of traveling however, I did do a lot of exploring in my hometown. I went for a picnic in the new green space in Toronto, Trillium Park, and discovered some new biking routes in the area. (Stayed tuned for a post all about the biking trails I discovered later this week!)

Highlights

TAP Portugal Launch Event

June 10th marked the return of TAP Portugal to Toronto Pearson Airport and I was invited to attend the event to honor their inaugural flight from Toronto to Lisbon. It was a surreal experience getting to greet the plane on the runway and celebrate the return of the airline. I’ll be working with TAP again next month when I hop on one of those flights myself to Lisbon and the Algarve.

World Oceans Day Giveaway

To commemorate World Oceans Day I held a giveaway on my Instagram in collaboration with two other amazing ocean centered brands: Cape Clasp and Swim With Sharks NY. The giveaway was a ton of fun, and don’t worry if you didn’t win because I have more planned for the future!

New Park Opening in Toronto

As I mentioned previously, a new park opened this month in Toronto and it is absolutely stunning! Previously the space was just a torn up parking lot, but you’d never know that if you visited it now. I had such an incredible time there I want to make visiting the park a regular event. Read more about Trillium Park HERE.

Challenges

Pitching
While I was able to get ahead this month on writing posts and editing photos, my freelance work suffered in that I wasn’t able to get out as many pitches to magazine editors as I would have liked. Struggling to find a balance between all of my projects is always a struggle with so many things on the go, but I’m hoping to make pitching more of a priority in the upcoming months.

Fitness Update

I have been absolutely killing it in the gym lately. I’ve reached the final weeks of my current program and have started incorporating what I’ve learned in this plan with my own workouts I’ve designed and have found such a great balance. My workouts have gotten a lot more intense, I’ve made a ton of strength gains, and I’m feeling so much more like an athlete again!

Loving this month

The Carbon Bubble – Jeff Rubin

I’ve been absolutely loving this book for June! This book looks at the economics of climate change, more specifically the economics of fossil fuels and clean energy. The book is also Canadian based, which is really nice as it focusses on Canada’s carbon emissions and talks a lot about our horrendous oil sands.

Apples & PB

Random as it is this has become a go-to snack for me this month, I swear I eat it every day.

Dark Matter – Blake Crouch

I read this book in less than two days; I literally could not put it down. This is a story all about alternate universes and how different versions of ourselves exist in many different worlds. It’s a fiction story but really gets your mind going about all the different parallel universes that can exist.

Love in a Bar – Ryan Hurd & Saltwater Gospel – Eli Young Band

I’ve had these songs on replay all month!

Serengetee Baseball Tee

This baseball tee from Serengetee has been a wardrobe staple for me this month. It’s super comfy and I love that by purchasing it I helped to make a difference in the world. You can save on your own Serengetee shirt with the code “Desousa20”.

Plans for July 2017

The month of July is sure to be exciting as Logan and I are heading to Portugal! I’ve been excitedly anticipating this trip for months as my background is Portuguese and I’ve always wanted to visit where I came from. One of my goals for July is also to produce a lot more video content, so stay tuned for that as well!

Oh you’ve reminded me that I really need to try PB & apples. I love both so I have no idea why I haven’t tried it yet.
I was in Victoria for World Ocean Day which was really cool because they had loads of stalls up for conservation and were getting loads of kids involved, which was lovely to see.
The Carbon Bubble sounds really interesting, I’m loving books like that at the moment so I’m going to check that out.
