Heyo! Sorry for the radio silence over the last three weeks. It’s taken me that long to figure out how the heck to pack for winter and write this post!

Just kidding, well not really, it did take a while for me to figure out how to perfectly pack for winter, but that’s not the reason that content has been slow on the site. My university semester just ended, so the last few weeks were incredibly hectic between studying for exams, finishing up final projects, and trying to get everything ready for my upcoming trip to Europe. A&A has and will always be a main priority in my life, but just like I’m sure your mom tells you, school comes first.

I really appreciate you guys being patient with me over this time and am really looking forward to an awesome three weeks in Europe and a nice two week break afterwards before my next crazy semester begins.

Now let’s jump into this!

Packing for travel is one thing, packing for winter travel is an entirely different beast – a difficult one to conquer for someone like me who’s used to packing for tropical weather. Nonetheless, I have made it to a frigid Europe will a suitcase filled with everything that I’ll be needing over the next three weeks AND it met all airline restrictions.

Here’s how I did it:

  • Practicality and comfort over style
Seriously, you are not going to be worried about how cute you look in your Instagram photos if your ears are freezing because you didn’t bring a hat and your feet are killing you from wearing heels all day. Always choose sensible and warm clothing for winter travel to make your life easier and your trip a lot more enjoyable.
  • Layers, layers, layers
If it can’t be worn under or over something else, then don’t pack it. There is no room for it in your suitcase. Stand-alone pieces won’t do you too much good during the cold winter months in Europe. Instead, pack clothing items that can easily be added or removed throughout the day as the temperature changes. Packing versatile pieces will also help to save room in your suitcase!
  • Stick to neutrals
It’ll be easiest to match your outfits if you stick with a neutral color palette – especially when you plan to be layering!

Here’s exactly what I packed for my three-week journey through Austria, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Sweden, and Portugal!

  • (2) Heavy coats: I brought my trusty black down winter jacket with me to wear on most days as well as a classy camel coat to wear out on fancier outings
  • (5) Sweaters: I brought 3 classy sweaters for dinners and such as well as two wonderfully comfortable and very warm hoodies
  • (4) Long sleeve shirts: Like I said, layers!! These are great for wearing when it’s not too cold out, or to wear under a sweater if its super cold out
  • (3) T-shirts: Again, layers. Just in case you’re feeling overheated indoors, it’s nice to have the option to strip off some layers down to a t-shirt.
  • (3) Pairs of pants: Ones without holes are probably going to be preferred for chilly days. I packed a black pair, dark blue pair, and light blue pair.
  • (3) Pairs of shoes: I packed my Blundstones which are My FAVOURITE winter boots ever, a pair of heeled black booties for fancy outings, and a pair of chucks for warmer and drier days
  • Accessories: My winter style accessories include a warm hat, mittens, and tons of thick wool socks
