Sunday Spark – weekly inspiration to “spark” your travel dreams

This week’s Spark is focussed on music! Music has always been a go to inspiration source for anything in my life, but lately I’ve stumbled across some amazing musicians who have inspired travel dreams far and wide. Here’s my pick of tunes that get me in a traveling mood!

Listen to the Man – George Ezra

To me this song provokes a sense of rebellion and adventure; why should we buy what they’re selling us? Why must we go to school immediately and get a 9-5 right after; why must we have a plan? George Ezra says we may not need one after all, just listen to the man. I found this song to also be comforting at times when I was just feeling lost (99% of the time), as it’s a gentle reminder you don’t need to have everything figured out.

Favourite lyric: “Why should we care for what they’re selling us anyway?”

Get Out While You Still Can – James Bay

While George’s Ezra’s song makes you question the path that you’re on this catchy song by James Bay practically screams that you are on the wrong one. With reminders that the world is grand and there is greener grass, this song can not only be an inspiration for travel, but life in general.

Favourite Lyric: “I’ve been here too long and if I stay they’ll tie me down, I know this chance won’t hang around, so I’m gone forever.”

Lost in Translation – Hedley

Okay, I’ll admit, having been a Hedley fan for well over a decade now, I was a little disappointed in this song at first, but it’s grown on me. (Its catchy okay?!) It’s been my mission for years now to break down as many language barriers as possible, by learning the native tongues of as many countries as I can. It was also around the time this song came out that I decided to pick up a German language course in university, hello relevance?!

Favourite Lyric: “Baby, I wanna get lost in translation.”

Barcelona – George Ezra

Oh hello again, George. Pretty much anything off of George Ezra’s album “Wanted on Voyage” is bound to inspire you to pack up and get going, as George actually wrote the songs about his travels across Europe. I love this song especially because the “chill” vibe that gets me dreaming of beautiful Spanish beaches. Plus, Barcelona is a bucket list destination.

Favourite Lyric: “Every time you have to go, I shut my eyes, and you know, I’ll be lying right by your side, in Barcelona.”

Castaway – Zac Brown Band

If you need any inspiration for a tropical vacation, look no further than this beachy gem. Zac Brown’s music always brings me back down to earth and reminds me that it’s the little things that matter most in life. Listening to this song always has me picturing myself somewhere on a beautiful beach, drink in hand, and not a care in the world, ahhh…

Favourite Lyric: “The good times are free and nobody can take that away.”

Born to Run – Bruce Springsteen

No I am not old enough to remember this song, I just had parents that exposed me to the best music! This classis is just a feel good song that’ll make you want to run right out the front door and just get going anywhere, everywhere! Maybe grab that special someone on the way out. 😉

Favourite Lyric: “Someday girl I don’t know when, we’re gonna get to that place where we really wanna go and we’ll walk in the sun, but till then tramps like us, baby we were born to run.”

Nashville Without You – Tim McGraw

This song is a heartfelt tribute to the striking city of Nashville, or more importantly the beautiful people in it. I love this song because it reminds me of some of the incredible people I’ve met on my travels. It’s a symbol of those nameless, wild souls we meet abroad, and a reminder that they are some of the most significant parts of our journeys.

Favourite Lyric: “The streets would have a different sound, there’d be no honky-tonks with whiskey rounds, no dreamers chasing dreams down.”

Alright guys, I’m going to cut myself off here before I have everyone racking up a massive iTunes bill! Let me know if you’d like to hear some more of my favourite travelling inspiring songs in an upcoming Sunday Spark, and don’t forget to leave your favourite songs below!
